I wrote the first scene of my current book yesterday. It took a few days to complete, but I’m happy with how it’s turning out. I think I want to read it as part of an excerpt for a writer’s convention in May.

The story opens with an angel coming down to the world of mortals for the first time, going to a carnival, and marveling at all the newness, the ‘too-much-ness’. He doesn’t know the word for ‘carnival’, so he calls it a ‘bright village’ and finds people strange for strapping themselves into strange machines and then getting off, with the machines seemingly serving no purpose.

I’ve been easing myself back into the creative arts. Currently I’m reading a couple of books — one fiction, one philosophy — and taking notes when I fancy to. I’ve also started playing a video game that isn’t Animal Crossing. It’s called “Alan Wake”, about a writer with writer’s block who gets caught in a horror story. At least, that’s how I’m seeing it right now. I know the lore of the game gets pretty interesting and complex over time, and I’m excited to explore everything.

Overall, the journey to getting back into a creative groove can be long sometimes. I think it’s easy to be difficult with oneself when creative output is low or slow, but it is important to engage with inspirational things and do what the whimsy requests sometimes. Plus, I’m filling up my next notebook and that’s always a fun experience and really wonderful to be able to look back on later in life.

I did upload a new (old) song to the interwebs. I sketched this song a few years ago and finally wanted to share it. It’s called “Moonwalking Crab” –it’s another instrumental piece. I really like its atmosphere, reminds me of being underwater.
