Sometimes life has a way of getting between a person and their creations. During these times, I think it’s important to do a few things:
- Try something new, something you’re allowed to be bad at, or something you haven’t done for a long time. For me, that would be drawing/painting, writing essays or blog posts/journals like this one, practicing guitar or piano (without the intent to record anything), reading, and so on. This allows the creative spirit to live without too much pressure.
- “Consume” for a while. Be gentle to yourself and listen to the songs that make you laugh, make you smile, make you cry. Reading books and watching movies comes in here, too. Cook some food and eat it. Go for walks and drink in nature. Things like that.
It’s easy to believe oneself to be losing grip with their creativity, when really the creative process is so much more than just “be consistent”. What I think a better idea is: “Let yourself be creative every day, no matter how small.” All creativity is good creativity, no matter if it’s going to be shared with the world or not.
Today I’m going to go to the library and try to write a little on the novel I’ve been neglecting. My computer decided to stop being cooperative with me, so maybe I’ll write by hand just to give my eyes a break until I replace it.
Currently I’ve been listening to a lot of Spiritbox and also TOMORA’s new single “Somewhere Else”. It inspired a scene that I’m writing for the novel, where an angel comes to the mortal world with the intent of killing someone, but then he gets distracted by a noisy and colorful carnival.
Hope everyone is having a day. :3
